My jiujitsu journey started in Anchorage Alaska under Gracie Barra. After countless invitations by my former co-worker and countless excuses to go and see what jiujitsu was all about, I finally broke down and said to myself...why not... What do I have to lose. I'll just go to a free class maybe kick some butt and at least I can say I tried it. I can vividly recall the moment I stepped into the acadamy. I felt like all eyes were on me and it was me against everyone else. I went into the locker room to change into this heavy robe (Gi that I borrowed from my co-worker) and thought to myself....Just don't look like a total Kook on the mat and you will be fine. With my Gi undone I had to ask for assistance to tie my belt, just like a little boy needing help to tie his shoelaces I walk up to my co-worker and asked for assistance. ....Alright I'm ready to go! I watch each person take a bow as they step on the mat so I follow suit. We all line up according to belt color as the instructor tells us to bow to a photo on the wall and then we all bow to the instructor. Im thinking at this time....oh no did I just enter a cult..........to be continued.
